Hey Talk Show Financial Man! Hold on Just a Minute!

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

Radio financial people crack me up, especially one in particular who will go un-named; apparently on over 600 stations nationwide. The premise goes like this: They take a phone call, and basically in a minute and a half they’re advising people to “get married now, don’t wait, pay everything off, your house, don’t go out to dinner until you’ve paid off your house”…I’m all about discipline, but I’m also about balance. What I don't see in this snap financial advice is reason, caution, balance, those kinds of things, I can’t believe the seriousness of the decisions and they say in absolutes, “do this”, meanwhile I’m thinking, hang on a minute! What are you telling these people to do? And if they rely on that it could be right, and it could be very wrong, and that’s the difference between a financial planner who is there for you to call, not once in your lifetime, but there as things change. There are times to be lean; there are lean times that you need to respond to, and there are full times that you need to respond to, and life is not something to regret not living, and sadly for so many of these people they’re told to scrimp and save and suffer and I’m just so glad that people that I know that have lost loved ones at a very young age, husbands, wives, enjoyed their lives while they were young, and didn’t just suffer for the future.
